2014 Dominican Republic
Communities: La Berma, El Pomier, Tio Filin, Paso de Moca, & Rio Grande Abajo
La Berma – B3 collaborated with TECHO (a non-progit organization dedicated to eradicating poverty) to construct 20 prefab homes. TECHO’s three phase plan includes providing temporary housing for those in desperate need of safe and clean homes, providing training and development of job skills, and helping families acquire and build a permanent home.
El Pomier – B3 worked with renowned geologist Domingo Abreu to construct a 500 foot pipeline and 28 latrines in an effort to improve sanitation and health.
Tio Filin – B3 partnered with Funkarst (a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the environment), Save the Children, and the community to build latrines.
Paso de Moca – B3 worked with the Rotary Club to construct water tanks, install pumps, and build 28 latrines to improve sanitation and the overall health for the community. Priorities were hand-washing training and improving the efficiency of water allocation.
Rio Grande Abajo – B3 partnered with the Brigada Verde group to construct a medical clinic and multipurpose building. The center provides routine medical attention, preventative check-ups, and immunizations.
