2009 Dominican Republic

Community: Los Conocones, Tierra Blanca, Aqua Larga, Villa Guerrero, & Los Mangos

Los Conocones B3 worked with the Peace Corps and director of a local primary school to repair and re-construct a classroom damaged by a tropical storm, build an additional classroom, and construct a library for the school.

Tierra Blanca – B3 worked with the local community to build a multipurpose community center to serve as a safe haven during tropical storms and hurricanes, a small preschool, and central meeting area for local committees. The facility also included bathrooms and a small kitchen. The local community joined B3 on the worksite everyday, providing support through both labor and inspiration.

Los Mangos & Aqua Larga – B3 helped to provide water, electricity, and trash removal for these 2 towns. Working with the Peace Corps and community volunteers, B3 provided the materials and labor for 5km of buried PVC and connections to 30 tap stands. In addition to granting access to running water, B3 provided each home with a solar panel to provide electricity and garbage containers to help with trash removal to combat pollution.

Villa Guerrero –  B3 worked with members of an impoverished community to build homes for families in need, replacing wooden shacks that were destroyed in a tropical storm.
