2007 Ecuador
Community: Chaupiloma, Veinticuatro de Mayo, Ballenita, Cuenca, Sabanilla, & Nuevos Prosperos
Chaupiloma – B3 built a daycare / nursery center for children ages 2 months to 5 years. The building included two classrooms, two bathrooms, a bodega, a medical facility, a common room, an office, a small kitchen, a dining area, and a stairway from one level to another.
Venticuatro de Mayo – B3 constructed a computer center and secured the donation of 15 used computers, providing the opportunity to learn skills to secure jobs outside of the barrio.
Ballenita – B3 helped build a school with six classrooms to teach adults in the village to read, write, and do simple math. Bathrooms were also included in the construction work. After implementing a literacy campaign in the new facility, technical classes will become available to train local adults as carpenters, electricians, etc.
Cuenca – B3 built classrooms in cooperation with Casa Hogar Guardiana de la Fe, an organization for “at-risk” boys between the ages of 7-13. The classrooms are to provide an educational program that teaches reading, writing, and math skills so that these students can be integrated into city schools.
Sabanilla – For this Guayaquil barrio project, B3 doubled the size and repaired an existing rundown school to improve accommodations for existing students and to attract more students. B3 helped bring running water to the school’s kitchen as well as added sinks for the children and teachers to wash their hands to improve sanitation.
Nuevos Prosperos – B3 partnered with the Rotary Club of Guayaquil to build classrooms, replace fences, rebuild a bridge, and clean out an unsanitary stream running through the area.
