Dominican Republic 2024
Batey Palmarejo – B3 built a large comedor (cafeteria), offices and bathrooms for Escuela Anaïsa. This was the second time that Builders Beyond Borders worked with MUDHA. In 2018, B3 partnered with MUDHA to build three classrooms at the school. MUDHA (Movimiento de Mujeres Dominico Haitiana)) is dedicated to education and representation of the families in the 20 Bateyes where they work. The school was started by MUDHA because the children had no access to the national education system, either because of lack of proper identification, being of Haitian descent, or the economic situation of their families. It has become a refuge of sorts for the students.
Batey Libertad – B3 collaborated with Yspaniola, an education-focused nonprofit building a model of high-quality education programs in Batey Libertad from pre-kindergarten through university. B3 built new bathrooms and a septic system for the school after Yspaniola was awarded a grant to develop a small Montessori school in this community. Most of these children attending this school did not have access to proper sanitation at home. The hope is that these new facilities would become the first step in teaching the community about hygiene and its relation to healthier living.
