B3 (Grades 9 – 12)

Builders Beyond Borders is unlike other youth organizations – B3 students develop leadership skills, responsibility and character through local and global community service.

We believe that volunteerism is a powerful and transformational experience for everyone involved. The benefits of our building projects extend far beyond the physical work site; our projects stand as symbols of hope, compassion, and collaboration. B3 has been revealing the power of volunteerism to high school students since 1992. We work with hundreds of students and families annually. As our program grows and develops, so does our ability to Build a Better World.

As a student led organization we promote opportunities for leadership through our Amigo, Student Advisor, Advisory Board, Ambassador, Intern Programs, and as well as other initiatives. Through friendships developed within their team and communities abroad, our participants exemplify a positive image of our own culture as “ambassadors” of the United States.

B3 works all year long to Build a Better World. Our program runs from June through the following May. Students volunteer locally through B3 sponsored projects throughout the fall developing a relationship with their team and helping to address issues and needs concerning our neighborhoods.

During respective school breaks in February, March or April, students travel to a developing nation in Latin America. Teams live and work with their host community to build new facilities that help transform lives. We build sustainable facilities that address needs of the community, be it a school, aqueduct, or medical clinic. The work is varied and physical, from mixing cement to digging trenches to building walls. As in all aspects of the program, students are supplied with all the knowledge and tools they need to succeed.

Student fees cover approximately 80% of their share of program expenses including building materials, transportation, accommodations, and other fees associated with logistics. The remaining 20% is raised together with our members through events, grants, and other donations. The program cost ranges between $3,500 and $4,150. Students have the opportunity to fundraise to cover these fees. B3 guides students through the fundraising process with workshops, access to online fundraising platforms, product sales, and more.

As an international organization, B3 and its teams are wonderful representatives of the US. Through cultural exchange and cooperation, we share compassion, friendship, and support to communities in need.

After the project is complete, the work isn’t done. We encourage our students to share their experience, to continue volunteering outside of the program, and to help others see the importance and value of volunteerism.

Please join us on this wonderful journey of something that might just change the way you view the world.
